2008 Graduates

Class 7, which included representation from all sectors of agriculture and each of the four Atlantic Provinces, completed their program in December 2008. Members of the group have earned 11 university degrees and 5 college diplomas.

Joanna Adams works with the Atlantic Grains Council. She has been primarily involved with the development of alternative crops in the Maritime region. Joanna is the youth representative on the Board of Directors for the New Brunswick Agricultural Council.

Jim Baillie is a producer of blueberries and pedigree seeds at Hill Tree Farms in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia. He is a director on the Canadian Seed Growers Association, NS Crop and Livestock Insurance Commission, Soil and Crop Improvement Assoc of NS and North Nova Forest Owners Co-operative.

Carol Boonstoppel is a partner in Scotch Lake Dairy in New Brunswick. Along with farming and raising five young children with her husband Richard, she is actively involved in church and school organizations.

Andrea Bourne is Executive Director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture and of the Agri-Adapt Council Inc. She is an interim board member of the new Canadian Agricultural Human Resource Sector Council and an active member of the National Agriculture in the Classroom committee.

David Bowlby is a partner in Dempsey Corner Orchards, in Aylesford, Nova Scotia and is also farm manager of the federal Research Station in nearby Kentville. He is currently president of the Aylesford Agricultural Society and is actively involved in community organizations.

Paul Connors is business development officer with the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture. He is a board member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Rural Secretariat and is on the board of several regional economic development organizations.

Frank Dormody is vice-president of Newfoundland Eggs Inc and has over 15 years of experience in senior management positions. Frank is a member of the egg grading sector committee of the Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors Council and is active in several community service groups.

Rodney MacWilliams works on his family’s mixed farm in West Cape, Prince Edward Island. He recently helped install wind turbines and is a validator for the ‘Canadian Quality Milk Program’ for Dairy Farmers of PEI. He is a director on the PEI Adapt Council.

Nicholas McCardle works for McCardle Bros. in Middleton, Prince Edward Island. The family business grows potatoes and operates a seed grain cleaning plant. Nicholas is president of the PEI Young Farmers Association.

Monique Mills is executive director of the New Brunswick Agricultural Council, an industry led agricultural business management organization. She has extensive experience working in the field with dairy, hog, poultry and horticulture producers and is very involved in the province’s agricultural industry.

Dianne Sinclair is a partner in Breckrow Farm in Goshen, NS with her husband Bruce and four children. They milk 70 purebred ayrshires, and have a purebred suffolk and north country cheviot sheep. Dianne has been a 4-H leader for 20 years.

Nathalie St-Coeur works for Ferme Bourgeois Farms in Memramcook, New Brunswick.

Janice Tait is an agricultural account manager with RBC Royal Bank and is an active 4-H Leader with a particular interest in planning travel to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto each year for 4-H members to compete.

Jennifer van Oord immigrated to Canada from Iowa in 1993 and is co-owner of van Oord Holsteins Ltd. with her husband Richard. Besides being a wife and raising two young sons, Jennifer is very active in her church and local community organizations.

Arthur Versloot operates Combination Holsteins Ltd., a dairy operation in Keswick Ridge, New Brunswick. He is Past-President of the NB Holstein Association and is Vice-Chair of the Provincial 4-H Council.

Ryan Weeks is co-manager/owner of Elliotville Farms Inc., a fourth generation dairy farm, and owns and operates Pleasant Valley Fence Right Services in Prince Edward Island. Ryan is a director on the PEI Federation of Agriculture and PEI Young Farmers Association and represents the latter on the PEI ADAPT Council.
